Journey to the Self

My Notes On Asana 2

The other day someone asked me how could one possibly be at peace while practising certain yoga asana (postures) because they seemed and looked uncomfortable. I told him that was exactly the point of it all. You cannot run away from the uncomfort, like you cannot run away from life’s problems, or from the darkness… The point of it all is to learn to breathe through it, to learn to accept it as much as part of yourself as the joy, the happiness and the comfortable situations are. I always tell my students they should never feel pain while practising asana, but it’s always ok to breathe through uncomfort. To know thyself, is the key. Starting with our own bodies is a nice way to practise self-study, on and off the mat. What do you think?
